Overview
Earth Music arrived at Dom St. Blasien for a programme bringing together live orchestral music and engaging workshops beneath the suspended Earth installation. Students from Kolleg St. Blasien joined us for an interactive daytime workshop, exploring the instruments and people behind the music. That evening, teachers, staff and the local community gathered for a concert beneath the cathedral’s vast white dome.
The orchestra
A ten-piece string ensemble, six violins, two violas and two cellos, formed a 360° circle beneath the suspended Earth, accompanying Michael Amadi on piano and vocals. With the audience seated around the musicians, the layout brought the performance into the heart of the cathedral, offering a different view from every seat.
The sound setup balanced the cathedral’s natural resonance with clarity for the instruments, vocals and spoken introductions. Lighting focused on the planet and performers, revealing the surrounding architecture and creating a shared setting for the daytime workshop and evening concert.
The programme combined cinematic music, contemporary classical works, original compositions and reimagined songs, including songs sung in German. Workshop performances opened up conversation and demonstrations, while the evening programme flowed as a complete concert.

The Workshop
Students from Kolleg St. Blasien joined an interactive concert beneath the suspended Earth. Through live music, demonstrations and conversation, they met the musicians, discovered each instrument’s voice and explored how listening and collaboration bring an orchestra together.
